
Dennis started his musical career at the age of eleven at his local school and was taught by the late Les Lambeth who was Solo Cornet for St Hilda's Band.
He then progressed to the Rowntree Cocoa Works Band playing cornet, he then changed to the Tenor Horn,followed by the Flugal Horn,he enjoyed the Flugal Horn, where he took part in his first solo competition at Whitby Spa, finishing in 1st place with a distinction.
After 16 years with the Rowntree band, he joined the York Railway Institute Band and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in the 1st Section Championship. The band made two CDs, which were called "Tracks of Brass" and "Brass on Track".
He then tried his hand at conducting the beginners band which he did for five years. Dennis enjoyed his conducting, so much that he left the Railway band and re-joined the Rowntree band, and helped to take them from the second section to the Championship section in the Yorkshire area, in between starting a beginners band which he did for five years.
He took the opportunity to join Fanfare in 2002 where he plays Horn to the present time.
He has toured extensively during his banding career taking in countries such as Germany, Denmark and France.
Dennis got great pleasure playing on Television notably A Touch of Frost starring David Jason, also Blue Peter and gardening programmes.
Outside of music Dennis likes to play golf, and also fishing from his cruise ship on the river Ouse in York.
