Paul started his musical career at the age of ten, playing the cornet for the York Golden Rail Band. Four years later, he was invited to play for the Rowntree Band, where he attained the position of Principal Cornet and Flugel Horn, it was on the flugel he was renowned for his quality tone, he went on to become the solo champion for the North of England in the under 21 category.

Paul was getting very accustomed to performing solo's on the Flugel, which took him to the main stage in Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, he has been invited back to Denmark on numerous occasions, where he is most highly thought of.

Paul was getting noticed more by the elite bands in Yorkshire, and was asked to play for the Rothwell Temperance Band and played solo Cornet for 2 years, playing in the national finals in 1997 and 1999.

Paul returned to his roots in 1999, and re-joined the Rowntree Band until 2002.

Fanfare took the opportunity to invite him to the Ensemble, which he plays with at the present time.

During his time with Fanfare he has toured Denmark and France, as well as such Fine Venues as the Bowes Museum, Chatsworth House and York Minster. He has now reached the ripe old age of 30 so he now has many more years to entertain his captive audiences.
